JMG Certification Options

The Junior Master Gardener program offers great flexibility in recognition certifications for youths. Below are the options for different recognition your students can earn.

Once the certificate requirements are completed, sign into your JMG Group Account. You will be able to print pre-filled, personalized certificates to award to students.

Level One Certifications (for elementary grades)

Certified Junior Master Gardener

(for students completing requirements in all eight chapters)

Youths can earn certification as a Junior Master Gardener in Level One, by completing the minimum requirements listed below. All lessons are found in the JMG Level One Teacher Guide and Youth Handbook.

  • Belong to a registered JMG group.
  • Complete 1 group activity per learning concept in each chapter.
  • Complete 1 individual activity per teaching concept in each chapter.
  • Complete 1 community service/leadership project per chapter.

The JMG core curriculum contains eight chapters with a total of 44 teaching concepts. Therefore, youth complete a total of 44 group activities, 44 individual activities and eight community service/leadership projects to become certified Junior Master Gardeners.

Learn, Grow, Eat & GO! Certification

  • Lead students through the 10-week, 20-lesson base curriLGEG curric tabsculum
    To maximize benefits for your students, you may also guide them through features including food evaluations, recipe demonstrations & physical activity breaks.
  • Complete at least one service-learning project with your class. One option included having your class host a Plant Parts Canned Food Drive. More service-learning project options are described on pages 174–175 of the  Learn, Grow, Eat & Go! curriculum.

Golden Ray Seriessm Certification

(for students completing requirements in a smaller unit of study)

The Golden Ray Series is recognition offered to youth that complete a small part of the Level One JMG program. Groups can choose to focus on one chapter or topic.

Youth can receive Golden Ray Series certification in any of the eight chapters of the Level One Core Curriculum and/or from any of the Golden Ray curriculum including Health and Nutrition from the Garden, Wildlife Gardener, Literature from the Garden or Growing a Vegetable Garden.

  • Belong to a registered JMG group.
  • Complete any combination of 12 activities in a single chapter(from teacher guide, youth handbook or a combination of both) or from other Golden Ray Series curricula.
  • Complete one life skill/career exploration activity from chapter eight.
  • Participate in one community service project.

Level Two Certifications (intermediate/junior high)

Operation Thistle – Plant Growth & Development

(for students completing requirements in all eight learning concepts)

Youth can earn certification as a Junior Master Gardener in Level 2 – Plant Growth and Development by completing these minimum requirements:

  • Belong to a registered JMG group.
  • Complete 1 group activity for each of the eight learning concepts.
  • Complete 1 independent activity for each of the eight learning concepts.
  • Complete 1 activity from the Life Skills and Career Exploration section of this curriculum.
  • Complete 1 service learning/leadership development project.

Operation Water – Soils & Water

(for students completing requirements in all eight learning concepts)

Youth can earn certification as a Junior Master Gardener in Level 2 – Soils & Water by completing these minimum requirements:

  • Belong to a registered JMG group.
  • Complete 1 group activity for each of the eight learning concepts.
  • Complete 1 independent activity for each of the eight learning concepts.
  • Complete 1 activity from the Life Skills and Career Exploration section of this curriculum.
  • Complete 1 service learning/leadership development project.
