2024 Growing Good Kids – Excellence in Children’s Literature Book Awards Program

FOR PUBLISHERS: How to Submit a Book for Consideration for the 2021 Growing Good Kids Book Award

(Only picture books published in 2023 are eligible for consideration. Submissions will be accepted beginning August 25, 2023.)

For each title you nominate, fill out one copy of the 2023-2024 nomination form and send the form and one copy of the nominated book to Randy L. Seagraves, the liaison to the Growing Good Kids Book Awards Committee. There is no limit to the number of books any one publisher can nominate for the award.
>>Nominations for books published in 2023 must be received by May 1, 2024.

If our office determines that the nominated title meets the requirements described below, you’ll be invited to forward one copy of the book to each member of the Good Kids Book Awards Committee – names and addresses of the committee members will be provided at that point.

Primary requirements for consideration for annual Growing Good Kids Book Award:

A. The power of the story to:
* engage children
* effectively  promote an understanding of and appreciation for gardening and the environment
* convey a positive message effectively

B. The power of the illustration/design to:
* appeal to children
* represent the story effectively
* promote an understanding of and appreciation for gardening and the environment

Winning publishers will be notified by May 31, 2024. Authors/illustrators are invited to attend 2024 Growing Good Kids Book Awards unveiling at the National Children & Youth Garden Symposium (NCYGS).
Other criteria considered include originality, cultural diversity, “timelessness,” scientific accuracy of realistic portrayals, and the physical quality of the publication. Books considered must be published in the calendar year before the award year.
