Do you love water? What if you did not have water anymore, what would you do?

Conserving water is a great way to save money and help the environment and you can start in your bath tub. Average showers last about 8 minutes and use 2 gallons per minute.

8 minutes x 2 gallons = 16 gallons

Helpful Hints to conserve water:

House:

  • Always turn the water off when brushing your teeth.
  • Always check to make sure water hoses and sinks are turned off.
  • If you find a leak, tell someone so they can fix it.
  • Collect the cold water that comes from the sink when you are waiting for it to warm up. Use this water to drink or water your plants.

Lawn:

  • Water in the morning or evening when it is not hot.
  • Check outdoor faucets, sprinklers, and hoses for leaks.
  • Don’t water on windy days.
  • Adjust sprinklers so you don’t water the sidewalk.
  • Use broom or leaf blower to clean patio and sidewalks instead of water.

Activity:

For your activity, get a parent or guardian to help you find a bucket. Go into your bathroom and run your water for 1 minute then measure your water! Make sure you write how much water comes from your tub on your activity page!

After you know how much water comes from your tub,  time yourself taking a shower everyday for a week. After Day 1, try to take off 30 seconds of bath time! Record how much time it took your everyday in the table under the activity page button! At the end you can calculate how much water you saved for a week by taking off time.

Try your best to take off enough time that you take less than an 8 minute shower!
