This featured “Classic” by Linda White is timely for the fall season for pumpkin carving. The book tells a lively story about Rebecca Estelle’s dislike for pumpkins. Rebecca embarks on a journey that gives her a greater appreciation for gardening, community, and the special seasonal squash! Quick Pumpkin Facts:

-Pumpkins are a great source of Vitamin C and Potassium

-Pumpkins can grow in any time of soil and require full sun

-They are a hardy vegetables that grow fairly easily (just like in this featured book)

-Around 90-95% of processed pumpkins in the USA are produced in Illinois

-The largest pumpkin ever grown was 2, 032 lbs (2013 California)

-Pumpkins were once recommended to cure snake bites and remove freckles

-Colonist prepared pumpkins by slicing off the top, scooping out the sides and filling the middle with milk and spices
